KMKR-LP, The Broadcast Service of Xerocraft D-I-Y Community Workshops
KMKR (or K-Maker Radio) is your radio station. That's right. It's yours. Much like how Xerocraft Hackerspace puts otherwise expensive, large, hard to locate tools at your disposal to build whatever you want, KMKR-LP will put a real life radio station in your hands! You, your family and your friends produce content that will be aired on an actual FM radio station to fellow Tucsonans!
KMKR-LP is an LPFM radio station that Xerocraft built in December of 2017. We went live on the air on the 4th of January 2018 and are broadcasting 24/7. LPFM stands for Low Power FM, meaning that the 50W tower will broadcast to a two mile radius, which includes downtown Tucson, the Arts District, two campuses of Pima College and the University of Arizona. Earlier this year Xerocraft Hackerspace was awarded a final license from the FCC to construct a Low Power FM radio station.
K-Maker Radio 99.9FM is all about the maker community, Tucson’s vibrant music scene, local arts and artists, and the local culture that is uniquely Tucson. We want to give voices to local builders, hackers, artists, musicians and engineers to spread their ideas over the airwaves and the internet.
We are currently interviewing local DJs and program producers and hosts for ideas, projects, programs, and activities that can make our radio station come alive and feel relevant to Tucson’s Urban Core. If you have an idea or proposal, contact us at [email protected]
