On Sunday, July 27, Tulalip was one of many stops on this year’s Canoe Journey, as the pullers make their way to the final landing destination of Lower Elwha.

By Kalvin Valdillez, Tulalip News On the bluff overlooking Tulalip Bay, four young women proudly stood tall on the afternoon of July 27. They watched the distant waters as dozens of canoes approached the shoreline one by one. A representative from each canoe family spoke of their travels on the wate...

Tsunami Update – Nooksack Indian Tribe, 7:54pm on Tuesday, July 29, 2025

Our paddlers in Port Townsend are safe. Our on-site team is in communication with our team at home, and we will continue to provide updates as information becomes available.

It has been confirmed that the camping area is not in the danger zone. Canoes are being moved to higher ground out of an abundance of caution. A skipper meeting has already been held to review the situation, and multiple Emergency Management teams are in active communication to ensure the safety of all paddlers.

Our hands are raised to them for their strength, preparedness, and care for one another.

Updated at 10:40 a.m.: The advisory for Washington state has been CANCELLED. At this time there is no tsunami threat to the Washington coast. Check out http://tsunami.gov for more information.

There still may be strong currents so we advise folks to stay cautious if they go near the water. Stay tuned to Washington State Parks & Recreation Commission to see when the beaches will be reopened.
