๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸšบHappy Womenโ€™s History Month!๐Ÿšบ๐ŸŒŸ

We want to honor the achievements, the resilience, and contributions of women from all walks of life who have paved the way for progress in our fight for equality throughout history.

This month, we recognize the incredible stories of strength and courage within our community and beyond. From activists to artists, trailblazing women continue to inspire and lead change, challenging the patriarchal narrative, and advocating for the rights of all.

To our trans sisters who continue to choose womanhood over and over and over because it is where they belong. To the butches. To the hairy women. To the femmes. To the black woman. To everything in between who identify as, or align with, woman. All of you belong here.

Join us in celebrating and empowering all of our amazing community sisters! ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€โšง๏ธ ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆโค๏ธ

WE ARE STILL HERE!

It's been a long year already, and that makes this Trans Day of Visibility (TDOV) even more important. Especially in a red state like Oklahoma, our solidarity with each other and with our allies is fundamental to our livelihood here.

Sarurday, March 29th, show your visibility in the form of signs and chants as we march along, rock out trans musicians with us, be inspired by our trans speakers, and learn how YOU can get involved by talking with the 2SLGBTQIA+ supportive organizations that will present.

๐Ÿ‘€ Here are the details:

Want to march with us? ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ
Arrive and park near OKEQ at 11 am. We step off at 11:15 am.

Can't march? ๐Ÿซ‚
Bring your blanket or chairs to Guthrie Green from 12 pm-3 pm to enjoy the music, listen in to the community conversation happening with organizations, and overall feel the community come together.

Additional details:

Please feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks but there is NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED.

We will have march marshalls to guide the march, we will be walking on sidewalks only, please listen to the people in the bright colored vests.

We will have private security, NOT cops.

We will have ASL interpretation for the left side of the stage. If you are hard of hearing or deaf, please sit on that side of the stage for a good view of the interpreter.

Ramadan Mubarak!

Tonight, as we look up into the skies, we will see the sliver of the new moon, signaling the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. For those who may not be familiar, Ramadan is a time of reflection, seeking wisdom, guidance, and strengthening community bonds. Muslims around the world will fast from dawn (Suhoor) until sunset (Iftar), refraining from food and drink. At the end of the month, Muslims will celebrate Eid, a day of charity, feasts, and prayers.

Ramadan Kareem from all of us on the TACO team.

We are not free until all of us are free. We wouldn't be where we are today without the inventions, minds, and power of black people. Here are some Oklahoma black led organizations that you can support, learn from, and learn about.

Black Q***r Tulsa- a community for BIPOC q***r and trans folk in the heart of Tulsa. Their mission is safety, awareness, inclusion, and community.

The Black Wall Street Times- "Access is the New Civil Right" is their slogan, and their mission is to build a more informed, equitable future in news by amplying black and marginalized voices.

Blackspace Oklahoma- their initiatives range from helping to save Black landmarks to pop-up movies. They build black power and black joy through their programs and projects. Centering black culture is one of their goals as well.

Oklahoma City Black Chamber of Commerce- they empower Black and minority-owned businesses and economic interests across central Oklahoma by sharing resources, building relationships, and advocating for equal opportunity and equitable outcomes.

Fulton Street- a coffee shop and a bookstore combined! They are on a mission to increase intergenerational literacy and build better community. They center the stories, narratives and lived experiences of people of color and marginalized communities.

Greenwood Cultural Center- Their mission is to preserve and promote the proud history and future of the African Amnerican community and the historic Greenwood District. They aim to tell the whole truth about the 1912 Race Massacre and Black Wall Street in general.

Normally, TACO reports on 2S and trans deaths specific to Oklahoma, but this one needs visibility from all over.

A 24 year old trans man named Sam Nordquist, in New York, was tortured and abused for weeks by several people, which led to his death. His remains were found on February 13th. This is beyond cruel. This is what trans people- especially BIPOC trans people- fear most, and we cannot imagine the horrors Sam experienced. Nobody deserves a fate such as this.

We fight for your justice, Sam, and we fight for our continued liberation to protect others. You will not be forgotten.

To his family and friends, we are deeply sorry for your loss.

Rest in peace.

It's aromantic spectrum awareness weekend! You are seen and you are valid.

What is aromantic? Aromanticism is a romantic orientation, which describes people whose experience of romance is disconnected from normative societal expectations, often due to experiencing little to no romantic attraction, or sometimes feeling repulsed by romance or being uninterested in romantic relationships. Aromantic is a spectrum. Everyone's aromantic person falls differently on the spectrum ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿค๐Ÿฉถ๐Ÿ–ค

WE WILL NOT BE ERASED! WE WILL NOT BE ERADICATED! There is no LGB without the T, without Two Spirit, q***r, intersex, and MORE. We are all oppressed together, and we all deserve healthcare, our history known, our movements recognized, and our lives lived authentically!

Martha P. Johnson was a BLACK TRANS WOMAN at the Stonewall Riots, and she deserves to be known as herself. Her identity and her work as a black trans woman will not be erased from history. She and every other q***r, trans, queen, and gender non-confirming patron of Stonewall deserve to have their true self preserved in their legacy.

Thank you, NYC, for showing up and protesting for the T+ at Stonewall National Monument!

Dear Valentines, our lovely trans and q***r community, we love you! May your day be filled with love of any kind. Take care of yourself by practicing self care you don't usually indulge in (bubble bath anyone?) Or phone a friend you haven't said hi to in a while, maybe have a meal with family. The possibilities of love are limitless. Blahaj wishes you a happy Valentine's Day as well! โค๏ธ๐Ÿฆˆ

Today, it has been a year since indigenous teen Nex Benedict (he/they) died. Their death was ruled a su***de, which goes to show how deep the bullying problem in Owasso Public Schools went and still goes (according to the investigation report that was done on the school). Owasso needs to address its bullying problem and protect ALL students.

We need to do better for our trans youth, especially for our BIPOC trans youth. They are our most vulnerable; with oppression stacked against them in even more unfavorable odds. We need to stand united for our youth, no matter the color, the gender, the sexuality.

We will still remember. We still hold space for him. We fight on for them; we fight on for all the trans people who have lost their lives before their time.

Trans youth: you are seen, loved, valid, and things will get better.

Rest in power, Nex. We wish you could have been here, you deserve to still be here.

The remains of a Cherokee trans woman named Aubrey Dameron were found today after six years of being a missing indigenous woman. Our hearts go out to her family and indigenous relatives.

Aubrey's disappearance in 2019 is part of a larger pattern of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) and, specifically, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIP).

If you're wondering how you can help, consider donating to Aubrey's family here:

Let us not forget Aubrey and all MMIP. Let there be JUSTICE.

With so many protests popping up lately, and many of us now answering the call to engage in our communities, we'd like to remind everyone to take the time to research who they are working with.

Action has a purpose and plan, and ways to follow that momentum forward to ensure it results in real change. By all means, please engage however you can, and protests are needed. What's just as needed is our discernment with how and who we engage with. Here are a few questions to ask before you march.
