After the last few weeks of craziness, it's always good to remember that music is the great equalizer. Throwing it back to 50 years ago. Those of us of a certain age remember what we were doing then. And I was listening to these songs on my hometown radio station. Lots of forgotten gems here. And three of the biggest hits of the 70s were on their way up the chart at #13, #20 and #21. Enjoy!

BK Cobb, you should be able to listen to it here. Part One is slightly finicky…I had to press”play” multiple times, but it finally started playing. Please let me know if you are able to get it to work for you. Steve

BK Cobb…it appears that my “share” only copied the link for Part 2 of the documentary. If you don’t see Part One, scroll down to the original post from October of last year, and play it from there. 😁

What's your favorite year for music on KAKC? One of mine is definitely 1967, which includes the Summer Of Love, and some of the decade's best songs like "LIght My Fire" by The Doors.

Time flies! 10 years ago this week the book, “Tulsa’s KAKC Radio: The Big 97” came out. It celebrates the wonderful Top 40 radio station us baby boomers in the Tulsa area grew up with. Listening on our transistor or clock radios and in the car, KAKC radio was our constant companion. Scooter Segraves, Lee Bayley, Dick Schmitz, Mike “Morning Mouth” McCarthy, Robert W. Walker and Jim Peters were some of the DJs who turned us on to new music by the Beatles, Beach Boys and the Doors, and entertained us like no other radio station in Tulsa has since!

The book is still available around the Tulsa area at Walgreen’s, Ida Red, Decopolis and the Sand Springs Cultural and Historical Museum. If you’d like a signed copy for $20, 4 bucks off retail, send me a private message.
