In December 2025, Manipur security forces intensified operations against various proscribed outfits, leading to the arrest of multiple cadres and the seizure of weapons and narcotics. These operations have primarily targeted extortion networks, illegal arms trafficking, and drug smuggling across the state.
Key Arrests and Outfits Involved
Security forces have apprehended cadres from several banned organizations:
RPF/PLA: A senior operative, Kshetrimayum Nilakanta Singh, was arrested in Imphal West on December 22, 2025. Another cadre, Thangjam Surankumar Singh, was detained on extortion charges on December 20.
UNLF (various factions): Several members of UNLF(P) were arrested for hijacking a fish truck on December 18. Earlier in the month, two women cadres of UNLF (Koireng) were nabbed in Imphal East for extortion.
PREPAK (PRO): Multiple cadres, including Kshetrimayum Abinash Singh and Rajkumar Daniel Singh, were arrested on December 14 with a 9mm pistol and ammunition.
KCP (various factions): Operatives from KCP (MFL) and KCP (PWG) were detained in districts like Kakching and Imphal West for their involvement in extortion and other illegal activities.
Other Groups: Arrests also included members of the National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) and SOREPA.
Significant Recoveries and Actions
Arms and Ammunition: Large caches, including AK series rifles, mortars, hand grenades, and IEDs, have been recovered and defused in districts such as Churachandpur, Thoubal, and Tengnoupal.
Extortion Crackdown: Many of the arrested militants were allegedly involved in forcible collections from traders, contractors, and government employees.
Narcotics and Poppy Destruction: Security forces destroyed approximately 118 acres of poppy cultivation in late December and arrested drug peddlers with he**in powder.
