It has now been 17 days since the catastrophic disaster struck Nepal on August 26.

It has also been 7 days since the last known survivor was found alive. Search efforts continue, but finding additional survivors at this point would require nothing short of a miracle.

Officials report 1,385 people have been found dead, while approximately 5,130 remain missing.

For thousands of families, the search for answers continues.

Hurricane Lowell is gone. The crisis isn’t. Nearly 90% of Kauaʻi lost power, and some residents will be without power for up to a month.

Winds gusted to 92 MPH, while parts of the island picked up more than 21 inches of rain.

Power is coming back gradually, but officials say the hardest-hit and most isolated areas could remain without electricity for up to a month.

Meanwhile, Lānaʻi’s only commercial cargo harbor is inoperable, disrupting the normal delivery of food, fuel and medical supplies.

Hawaii has now requested an expedited federal major-disaster declaration as recovery continues.

113,000 RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS NOW LINKED TO WILDFIRE SMOKE.

Indonesia’s wildfire crisis is rapidly worsening.

More than 12.5 MILLION people have been exposed to smoke and haze, while reported respiratory infections have more than doubled in just eight days — from 50,891 to more than 113,000.

The haze is now affecting neighboring countries as Indonesia battles one of its most severe fire seasons in years.

2026 — 27 so far

**10-year average: 12.1 days per year**

Wichita’s official 30-year climate normal is 12.4 days per year at 100° or hotter.

So despite how brutally hot this summer has felt, the math over the last decade is almost exactly the same as the long-term average.

The real outlier recently wasn’t 2026 — it was 2025, with only ONE 100° day all year.

RARE PACIFIC SETUP:

Hurricane Lowell has exploded into a Category 5 with 160 mph winds, while Hurricane Karina remains a Category 4 with 145 mph winds.

This is the first time since 2018 that two Category 4-or-stronger hurricanes have been active simultaneously in the eastern/central Pacific. The last occurrence was Hurricanes Sergio and Walaka.
