Have you been guilty of any of these??? 🙋🏻‍♀️
I know I have.

1. You are responsible to ensuring the patient is properly positioned and draped. If you don’t learn how, it’s going to be trouble when it’s a case you’re working without your usual team, and everyone is looking at you to direct them.

2. Always listen to the advice. The scrub techs, nurses, rad techs, anesthesia, and other first assists have so much wisdom to share.

3. You can throw a perfect suture all day long, but if it’s not tied properly, it’s useless. Take the time to master tying knots in the beginning. Practice at home. It will set your whole career.

4. If you’re right handed, use your right hand and sew from right to left. And vice-versa if you’re left. I see this all the time! It’s not like writing or reading, so it can feel counter-intuitive at first. But if you do it wrong, it’s awkward and you can’t see your work.

5. From setting up, to taking down, to cleaning up. It’s all teamwork. Make yourself part of the team. And the team will always take care of you.
