How many chicks do you count?

04/03/2026

Update: Hi, my name is Jessica… and I did NOT complete Step 12. 🐔😂

Exhibit A: the 100 meat bird chicks I picked up today… 👀🐥

Meanwhile at home:
• 100+ developing in the incubator (because apparently I believe in overachieving 🙃)
• 100+ already in brooders & grow-outs

At this point, I’m not in recovery… I’m in full-blown expansion mode. 📈🐓

I used to think I had a chicken problem…
Now I realize—I have a capacity problem.

Step 13: Help a sister out—get on the list for chicks & fertilized eggs 😅🥚🐥

Roll call—who else is in poultry anonymous with me? Or am I officially running this meeting now? 👀🥚

They’re here….let’s see how many we have once we get home. Any bets? I ordered 100, but they add extra.

Hi, my name is Jessica… and I have a problem. 🐔😂

Step 1: Admit you have more chickens than you planned.
Step 2: Realize “just one more” is a lie.
Step 3: Accept that the feed store knows you by name now.
Step 4: Stop pretending you needed another breed for “egg color variety.”
Step 5: Acknowledge that your coop math doesn’t math anymore.
Step 6: Understand that “chicken math” is not recognized by banks or spouses.
Step 7: Forgive yourself for ordering hatching eggs at midnight.
Step 8: Admit incubators multiply faster than chicks.
Step 9: Accept that every chick is your “favorite.”
Step 10: Stop checking on them every 15 minutes… (or at least try).
Step 11: Embrace your title as a full-blown poultry addict.
Step 12: Repeat after me: “I do NOT need more chickens”…

…anyway, who’s got hatching eggs available? 👀🥚

Talking to my son on the way home tonight the reality of how many chicks we have here and on the way really hit LOL! My big incubator has over 90% fertility rate going on in it. I still have over 100 developing in it. Plus quail, turkey & goose eggs. Mixture of keepers & cheeps for customers.

I have a few actively hatching in a smaller incubator that has another 30ish that will be candles over the weekend. A 24 loaded a couple days ago with duck, Tolbunt polish & assorted other pretty eggs.

100 Cornish cross chicks arriving tomorrow. They are scheduled for processing beginning of June, and there will be some available for customers.

12 Ayem Cemani eggs arriving tomorrow.

I have about 50 growouts ready for the grow out pen when the weather clears. Need to count. I only lost one chick in the 100+ chicks split between growouts & brooders.

3 brooders with chicks & one with quail.

Of those I have 8 BCM & 4 goslings headed to customers. The rest of the brooders & growouts are staying.

Now what is in the incubators is a mix of keep and sell, but still that’s a lot of cheeps. 🙃

Bird math be mathing

Looking at these shipped Kiki eggs developing 😍

How accurate is stamps.com on shipping estimates? I have chicks that shipped yesterday that are showing that they will not arrive until Monday, 4/6. That is insane for live birds. Praying they are wrong and get here tomorrow
