Get to know Emilie Lindemann, author of Ghost(ed) Woman & the Electric Purple Pants. 💜👖

Emilie holds a PhD in English-Creative Writing from UW-Milwaukee and teaches writing and communication courses at Lakeshore College. She also serves as a poetry editor for Sheboygan-based Stoneboat Literary Journal.

Emilie is the author of mother-mailbox (Misty Publications, 2016) as well as several chapbooks, including Capsule Wardrobe for the End of the World (dancing girl press, 2019).

Emilie's experience during the pandemic inspired the poetry of Ghost(ed) Woman. The liberal arts college where she had taught for ten years closed its doors for good in 2020. In the months and years after, she felt stuck and frozen in time. The book's poems are about feelings of loneliness and uncertainty in the aftermath of job loss and other changes during the pandemic.

I attended an event held by Governor Evers at the Wisconsin Executive Residence and gave him a copy of Opening Nights for their library. He told me he would read it first before placing it in the library. It is the perfect book to read after a stressful and strenuous day of governance. Literature from the Lakeshore!

This creative duo has curated a beautiful chapbook that is sure to connect Emilie’s poetry with readers. Both accomplished poets, they have created a work of art.

We're less than one month away from the release of our first book of 2025! Ghost(ed) Woman & the Electric Purple Pants by Emilie Lindemann publishes on Wednesday, June 25.

Did you know? The painting in the book's cover was created by Ginny Laukka. The painting is titled “You Are the Peace You Seek” and was created in response to the poem "Trying" by Emilie, one of the poems in Ghost(ed) Woman & the Electric Purple Pants. The two pieces were part of the ArtAsPoetryAsArt Exhibit in Manitowoc, WI in 2024, which paired an artist with a poem, and a poet with a work of art.
