I recorded the classical guitar at Robin Hood Studios. I then added a bunch of electric guitar tracks to it at my studio to create this fun little guitar-only clip of the song, Africa, by Toto.

Just a little clip of the song, Africa, by Toto, played with just guitars using a variety of tones.

I've never used the pattern editor/step sequencer before. I gave it a go using Impact XT in my PreSonus DAW along with my ATOM controller and recorded this little tune. It also features some acoustic instruments, including my Greek baglama.

Made a little tune using the pattern editor on my recording software that I've never used before.

I've never really used loops when recording, but I had some fun messing around with some loops and one-shots that came packaged with my DAW to create this hard rock instrumental.

created this track using some loops and one-shots that came with Presonus Studio One.

“Don’t bore us, get to the chorus,” goes the songwriting adage. For fun, I plugged my BOSS CE-300 stereo chorus rack into two Roland JC amps, each with its own stereo chorus. Quadraphonic sound!

I feel like my bass playing has always been a weak spot when I'm making recordings. I decided to up my game and take advantage of a cool music instrumental site sponsored by Yamaha that's running a discount right now. I took a Lee Ritenour course last year and really like the format. You watch the lessons for a certain period of time before it expires. I just signed up for a month of bass with Billy Sheehan. With that limited timeframe, it really forces me to make the time to take the course. Otherwise, I can easily get busy with other stuff and never take it. Here's the code for the special offer that runs through 2/7: "RNY2022 when you check-out and get prepped to jam like a pro for 35% off!
musicians.online/program". There's instruction by pros on various instruments there. Check it out.

Musician’s Creativity Lab is an online music lesson program where you can take lessons from your favorite world-class artist.

Fruitful trip to Half Price Books today. It’s hard for me to sit down and create, and I found a couple books that look like they’ll help, I hope. I so often get caught up experimenting and testing gear and getting different sounds, I never get around to writing actual songs! I was affectionately called “Inspector Gadget” in a former band by the bandleader because of all my gear goofery. I like to take good care of my gear, too, and this guitar and amp maintenance book looks like a good one, as well.

Ending the year with a roar. Hope 2022 is a better year for everyone.

Improv over a Marillion riff via a stereo amp setup with a borrowed Tone King combo (thanks Dwayne). Love stereo chorus and ping-pong delay.

More recording fun. I love Robin Hood studio.

This is the story so far...

I’ve experimented with home recording on and off for many years, and had some success with it, such as getting placement in a music library and scoring music for a movie that I got to see in the theater. However, my focus had been primarily on performing live music -- playing guitar as well as Greek bouzouki.

But now, I just don’t have the time to play in bands. So I’m focused on my studio now as a way to remotely create and play music and connect with others.

There are so many different skills involved with recording music. There’s so much to learn in so many different areas. I’m lucky to have knowledgeable friends who have been very helpful to me. I’m going to document my journey here and share what I learn so I can hopefully help others, as well.
