Per Tyrone Borough Police Department - Tyrone, PA

PRESS RELEASE

During the early hours of December 8, 2025, several vehicles throughout the Borough of Tyrone had been entered or attempted to have been entered. The only reported item stolen was a Re*****on hunting rifle, which had been left in a vehicle along the 600 block of Park Avenue. During this course of investigation numerous surveillance videos were obtained. Two younger appearing males were determined to have been responsible for the vehicle entries. A witness recalled having seen a black Mercedes parked near 5th Street and River Avenue around the time of this incident. The vehicle had been left running but not occupied. Officers became aware of a stolen black Mercedes from State College, PA. In coordination with State College Police and Ferguson Township Police it was determined that the stolen Mercedes had been viewed by a witness. Officers were able to connect a 16-year-old male to the stolen vehicle, in addition to the vehicle entries within the Tyrone Borough.

On December 9, 2025, a search warrant was obtained for the juvenile’s residence within the City of Altoona. While conducting the search, the rifle stolen from the 600 block of Park Avenue was located within the juvenile’s bedroom.

The juvenile has been charged with felony theft, theft from a motor vehicle, and loitering and prowling at night. An investigation continues, to confirm the identity of the second individual involved.

The Tyrone Police would like to remind residents to always lock their vehicles and to secure valuables, especially fi****ms, elsewhere. A spike in thefts from vehicles often occurs around the holidays.

The Tyrone Police would like to thank the State College Police Department, Ferguson Township Police Department, and the Altoona Police Department for their assistance.
