Shibaozhai Pagoda in Chongqing, China:
On a high, rocky outcrop rising from the Yangtze River is a structure both surreal and sublime. A 12-story red pagoda stands out from the surrounding green cliffside. But 'stand out isn't really the accurate term here, since the first nine levels of the pagoda are not free-standing – instead, they rest on the rock face behind them. And the pagoda's three upper stories are actually set on level ground at the clifftop. The ornate structure was built for a practical purpose: Crowning the hill, but not seen in our image, is a large Buddhist temple. Before the red pagoda and its interior staircase were built in 1819, the only way to get to the upper temple was via a cumbersome pulley-and-chain system.

Aerial view of Las Baulas National Marine Park, Costa Ricaः
Estuaries carpeted with mangrove trees mark the mouth of the Rio Matapalo where it empties into the Pacific Ocean. Here, crocodiles tramp through the roughly 1,200 acres of undergrowth, and herons and howler monkeys swoop and ramble through the treetops. The landscape is a part of Las Baulas National Marine Park, a large reserve that protects a portion of Guanacaste province in northern Costa Rica. The country has so far balanced tourism and conservation wisely, and the park bears that out. Within its borders is one of the country's most beloved beaches – the Playa Tamarindo – as well as one of the world's most important breeding grounds for leatherback turtles, the Playa Grande.

Phoksuṇḍo(Phoksumdo) Lake:
[pʰoksuɳɖo]), is an alpine fresh water oligotrophic lake in Nepal's Shey Phoksundo National Park, located at an elevation of 3,611.5 m (11,849 ft) above sea level in the Dolpa District. Phoksundo Lake is 494 ha (1.91 sq mi) in size with a water volume of 409,000,000 m3 (1.44×1010 cu ft) and a discharge of 3.715 m3/s (131.2 cu ft/s). In 2004, a survey by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology measured the maximum depth of the lake at 145 m (476 ft). In 2019, another detailed survey was carried out by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, which measured the maximum depth of the lake at 136.20 m (446.9 ft).

Pedestrian tunnel in Marienplatz Station, Munich, Germanyः
It's been estimated that more than 175,000 passengers use Marienplatz Station on a typical weekday, making it probably the busiest stop in Munich's U-Bahn rail system. Good thing that the station, originally opened in 1971, was expanded beginning in 2003 with additional pedestrian tunnels like this one. We're looking down one of the two long 'extension tubes' that resemble something out of a Kubrick film.
This retro design was intentional – the construction expands on the original architecture of the station's platforms, with bright orange tile, black trim and snaking lines of ceiling lights. The tunnels were finished in time for one of the main reasons for the expansion – the 2006 World Cup (and all those teeming football fans) held right here in Munich.

Aerial view of oak trees and a dehesa range in Badajoz, Spainः
While we hear much about the clearing of forests for farms, there is another agricultural practice that maintains the trees as an integral part of the acreage. The ancient silvopasture method incorporates pastures for grazing livestock within woodlands, and this carefully managed combination benefits both the ecology and the economy. In Spain, this kind of rangeland is called a dehesa, and in our image we see oak trees dotting a pasture in the province of Badajoz. Here, domesticated black Iberian pigs may wander under the oaks, foraging for acorns. Other renowned Spanish products produced within dehesas include cork, honey and mushrooms. These biodiverse landscapes are also home to much wildlife, including rare species like the Spanish imperial eagle.

Zhangjiajie — Pandora on Earth!
Zhangjiajie is famous for its precarious peaks, limpid streams, dense forests, large karst caves, and biodiversity. It is one of the must-see scenic areas in China.
It was thrust into foreign travelers' eyes via the movie Avatar. The Hallelujah Mountains were inspired (in part) by peaks like Heavenly Pillar in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.

A favorite among tourist destinations in China, Wulong Fairy Mountain, and the Karsts. Wulong is home to some absolutely stunning landscapes and scenery and local tourism in the area is slowly starting to come back.

The community is the first "fourth-generation housing project" in China and also the first "vertical forest" residential community in the area, with each balcony converted into a private garden.
