Since we printed our guide to Mendocino and Lake County farmers markets in the last issue, we learned that Point Arena Farmer's Market has returned after a several-year absence! Be sure to check them out every Friday from 3-6 p.m. in the old pharmacy parking lot. They plan to stay open through November. Oz Farm

Did you know that you can make this hearty chili verde with ultra-fresh local ingredients from your local farmers market? Gloria Harrison, manager of Laytonville and Ukiah Farmers Market Community, gave us this recipe and said that nearly every ingredient can be sourced from Laytonville market: for example, you can get the pork from Inland Ranch Organics, and the onions from Irene's Garden. Gloria suggests serving it with hot flour tortillas, salsa, fresh cilantro, sour cream and grated cheese. You can also make it into burritos -- or just eat it as a soup! Today is Lake County Winefest! Come on down to Library Park in Lakeport before 5 PM and taste some of the finest homemade wine and beer from Lake County, vote for your favorites, enter the silent auction, and check out the food and craft vendors.
