Back Roads and Front Porches

Back Roads and Front Porches Back Roads and Front Porches celebrates nostalgic small-town America through local stories, community pride, and the everyday people who quietly give back.

For those who love Americana, back roads, front porches, and what still holds towns together.

Well… this wasn’t on today’s itinerary. 😂

The transmission cooler in the truck decided to spring a leak, so tonight our home-on-the-road tow vehicle is taking a ride of its own — headed to the dealership on a rollback.

Not every mile of this journey is pretty. Sometimes you find an incredible Hometown Helper. Sometimes you discover an amazing little town.

And sometimes… you watch your truck get loaded onto a tow truck.

This is part of the journey too — and we’re bringing you along for all of it.

Hopefully we’ll have better news from the dealership soon. 🤞

Something new is coming...

We've spent the past several months building something we've dreamed about for a long time.

Beginning with our upcoming episodes, Back Roads & Front Porches is on a journey to find Hometown Helpers Across America—a journey through America's small towns, one remarkable person at a time.

This is more than a new opening...
It's the beginning of the next chapter.

We can't wait to take you along.

Tell us you're in Amish Country without telling us you're in Amish Country. 😂

We stopped at Good's Store today for the first time and WOW — we couldn't believe how much stuff they have.

But then we wandered into the fabric and clothing sections...
Yep. We definitely know where we are. 😄

Have you ever been to Good's Store?

$54,908.85 is an incredible number.

But after spending Saturday afternoon with Jeff Lied, that really isn't the part we keep thinking about.

We watched Jeff work his way around the room talking with people. We watched him spend time with the Wish Kids and their families.

And then we watched him walk away with a new fundraising record.
It reminded us of something Jeff told us when we first met him:
You show up.

That's really what this story is about. One person showing up, year after year, and making a difference.

If you missed yesterday's very first From the Front Porch, we'd love for you to spend a few minutes with us and see what happened.
Watch the full episode over on YouTube! Will try and post the link in the comments if Facebook lets us. ❤️

And congratulations again to Jeff—and to all the drivers whose efforts helped make this year's convoy something pretty remarkable.

☕ Good morning from the Front Porch!

Yesterday afternoon, Mairi and I were invited by Jeff and Deb Lied to attend the 2026 Convoy Celebration.

We knew going in that Jeff had done something pretty special.

We didn’t realize just how special until we heard the words…

“It’s a new record.”

For the very first From the Front Porch, we’re taking you with us to see what happened — and catching up with a Hometown Helper whose story definitely didn’t end when our original episode did.

Grab your coffee and spend a few minutes with us this Sunday morning.

And if you remember Jeff’s philosophy about simply showing up, those words are going to mean even more after you see this.

We’re in Mount Joy this afternoon for the 2026 Convoy Celebration — and we’re here as guests of a couple of people you might remember… Jeff and Deb Lied.

Today the Top 30 drivers are being recognized, and we have a feeling this is going to be a pretty special afternoon. ❤️

We’re bringing the cameras along because there’s a story here we want to share with you.

Tomorrow morning, join us for the very first From the Front Porch.

We’ll show you what happened today — and catch up with one of our Hometown Helpers whose story definitely didn’t end when our episode did.

Stay tuned. This could be a good one.

Running all over Lancaster County today, so eventually you have to stop for lunch. 😄

Lapp Valley Farm sounded like a pretty good place to do it.

And yes… Lassie came along for today’s adventure too. 🐾

Judging by that first picture, we’re pretty sure she was wondering why her lunch stop wasn’t nearly as exciting as ours. 😂

These are some of our favorite days — back roads, good food, Lassie along for the ride, and never quite knowing what we’ll find around the next corner.

Just another day with Back Roads & Front Porches. ❤️

Interview done. And it was a GOOD one. ❤️

Now, if you know us, you know there was absolutely no way we were going to be this close to Pine View Dairy and not stop for ice cream. 😂🍦

One of our favorite Lancaster County stops — and yes, it’s every bit as creamy and delicious as we remembered.

Great morning. Great Hometown Helper story. And a pretty great way to end the day.

Sometimes the journey between the stories is pretty darn good too.

Breakfast first… then another Hometown Helper. ❤️

We started our morning at one of our favorite places in Lancaster County — Lancaster Central Market.

Now we’re headed out to meet someone who’s using the skills from his career to help local food pantries work together, get food where it’s needed and help keep good food from going to waste.

We think you’re going to like this story.

Just another day on the back roads, looking for the people making a difference in their hometowns.

Another sign that fall is on the way… 🎃🍂

Pumpkin season has officially arrived.

We’re out on the back roads today working on another Hometown Helper story, and apparently a Pumpkin Brûlée smoothie was required fuel for the journey. 😄

The seasons are starting to change… and so is the road ahead for BRFP.

More soon. ❤️
