that’s a wrap on active days for us at DCA 2025!
Patchy ran his final 6 runs for his FCAT5 🙌🏽
some of you may recall that i really don’t like running fastcat - it’s not because the course is tough. it is, and patchy’s times were similar to what they were last year when we ran here, but it’s because the line up and the only way to get onto the course is on concrete 😭 last year, patch ended up filing half of his nails down to the quick. i didn’t notice because he didn’t bleed out, but afterwards, those nails were black and blooded on the inside and bottom. i kept him waiting on the grass this time, but 6 enthusiastic “walk-ups” on the concrete, and this is what his nails look like again this year. i hope he didn’t hit the quick— i left his nails longer this time because of this— but he is only lightly tapping/not-quite-kicking up after pooping, and he’s been sensitive to me wiping his paws, so i’m expecting more black on the nails again this time.
i spoke with someone and raised the flag, and we agreed it’s probably not the first time it’s happened but it was the first time anyone brought it up to her. hopefully they turf the area moving forward, but who knows if they actually will.
anyway, more on barn hunt later, but now i get to watch everyone in the confo ring and patch gets to chillax and grow those nails back out 😁
