The National Weather Service has issued a HEAT ADVISORY for Obion County which goes in effect Monday morning at 11am and continues until 7pm Tuesday night.

Heat index values are expected to be 108 degrees or higher.

The Marginal Risk for severe storms has been expanded to include most of the Midsouth today. The primary threat remains damaging winds. There is a secondary threat for localized flash flooding. Storm coverage an intensity will likely peak in the late afternoon and early evening.

A Marginal Risk for severe storms is in place on Thursday for portions of the Mid-South. Damaging winds are the primary concern with any storms that do form. This will not be a widespread rainfall event, but a few lucky places will receive beneficial rainfall.

September is PREPAREDNESS MONTH in Tennessee. Residents of Obion County are encouraged to take small steps now to be better prepared for emergencies before they occur.

Preparedness Month is a statewide and national opportunity to help families, businesses, schools and communities build confidence before a disaster strikes. Emergencies can happen anywhere in Tennessee, including severe weather, flooding, tornadoes, extended power outages, earthquakes and other hazards that impact homes, roads, utilities and daily life.

Preparedness does not have to be complicated. Simple steps like making a family emergency plan, having multiple ways to receive alerts, checking emergency supplies, and knowing where to go for trusted information can make a real difference.

Tennessee’s Preparedness campaign, “Be a Preparedness Hero” focuses on helping Tennesseans take simple steps preparedness actions throughout the month.

Take a few minutes and review your emergency plans, make sure all your family knows the plan and what to do. Check your Emergency Kit. If you don’t have an Emergency Kit, consider putting one together.
