The Union Board of Alderman unanimously approved to hire current assistant chief Mitch Kennedy as the new police chief, effective July 1, 2026, in their meeting on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026, at City Hall.

It was a celebration in red, white, and blue Thursday evening at the Historic Newton Depot as the Newton Chamber of Commerce held their 73rd annual Chamber Banquet, celebrating a year of accomplishments and extending gratitude to each member who has been part of the success.
