Hofstra Sportscasting Institute for Teens Ever dream about conducting an interview with the newly crowned Super Bowl champions? Find out if you have what it takes to make it as a sports broadcaster.

Students get hands-on experience and in-depth critiques of their work in the classroom and in the field, as they hone their skills in TV and radio play-by-play, anchoring and reporting. Guest instructors have included well-known sportscasters and network broadcasters such as: Mike Breen, Kenny Albert, Tracy Wolfson (CBS-TV sports), Freddie Coleman (ESPN Talk Show Host), Keith Irizarry (SiriusXM) a

nd Ralph Bednarczyk (Fios). These courses are designed to improve communicating and writing skills and provide a pathway for a future profession.

We are PUMPED for the start of our comprehensive week-long "Introduction to Sportscasting" class today. Students will get experience with interviewing, play-by-play, radio updates and hosting, debates and more. We'll also be joined by special guests Kenny Albert (Fox Sports NFL & MLB, NY Rangers Radio, NHL on NBC, NY Knicks TV & more), Chris King (NY Islanders & LI Ducks Radio) & Ed Cohen (NY Knicks Radio). It will be a great week! Keep an eye out for pictures and videos here and on our other social media channels all week long.

We are SO excited to announce some of our guest speakers for this summer.

The versatile Kenny Albert will join us during Introduction to Sportscasting.
ESPN NBA & NY Knicks PxP voice Mike Breen joins us for Sports Play-by-Play.
ESPN Radio Host Freddie Coleman will stop in during Sports Radio Hosting.
Fox 5 Sports Anchor Tina Cervasio will join us for Introduction to Sportscasting for Young Women.

And we are thrilled to announce a brand new field trip for our Intermediate Sportscasting course. We'll be taking a trip to a Mets game to meet SNY sideline reporter, Steve Gelbs. Steve will give us a tour, we'll do some mock play-by-play, and much more.

Our week of instructor spotlights ends with our newest addition to the staff - Jim Baumbach.

Jim is an award-winning investigative and enterprise reporter in the sports department at Newsday, where he has worked since 1998. Recent projects include a two-year investigation in the challenges professional football players face after they leave the game and a seven-month examination into head safety in high school football on Long Island. Throughout his career Jim has covered every New York professional sports team and reported from high-profile events such as the Super Bowl and the World Series. Jim also currently is the current advisor to the student-run newspaper at St. John's University, his alma mater, and he holds a master's degree from Stony Brook University. His awards include two Emmys and he has received honors from the New York Press Club, Deadline Club and a host of other journalism entities. A Long Island native, Jim lives with his wife, two young daughters and dog on the south shore.

It may be the weekend - but our instructor spotlight continues with Scott Greene!

Following a 16-year coaching career at the High School and College levels, since 2010 Scott has broadcasted over 250 games as the lead Basketball Color Analyst for Verizon Fios 1 Sports.

Since 2013, Scott has served as Fios 1's Football analyst and Fios' Sideline reporter. He has also worked College Basketball packages for ESPN3, Big East Digital, American Digital and America East. Scott served also as College Softball analyst for St. John's University and Professional CBA action for One World Sports.
