Announcing the first single off Zara Alexandra’s first album with La Honda Records, “Broken Mirrors” is a powerful and poignant look at a family hiding behind a facade of normalcy. The lyrics paint a picture of a troubled home life, centered around the powerful symbol of “broken mirrors,” representing a fractured family dynamic and distorted reality.

The song contrasts the outward appearance of normalcy, exemplified by the ‘steadfast and strong smile’ and the idyllic image of a ‘white fence’ and ‘tall flowers,’ with the underlying pain and secrets revealed by “downcast eyes” and the isolated feeling of being ‘in the middle of nowhere.’ The bouncy melody contrasts with the dark lyrics, underlining the dichotomy between the family’s facade and reality.

It’s with a standalone single from .thornton

“Rope Dancer” musically and lyrically explores how it feels to attempt to deliver on people’s expectations of you.

Ramsey’s intricate instrumentality circles around, trying to find balance within the rhythm. The ebbs and flows of the banjo and guitars mirror the lyrics of “Rope Dancer”. Thornton’s lyrics express frustration with the inevitability of failure. No matter how the narrator contorts to fit new expectations, there is always a communication breakdown. The relationship described in “Rope Dancer” is just that, trying to balance on a tightrope line that you will fall off of, because you keep tightening the line. The more you seek stability, the more chaotic life becomes.
