The Arlington Independence Day Parade had a great time marking our 60th anniversary in 2025. We were honored to have National Medal of Honor Museum CEO Chris Cassidy and his wife Peggy as grand marshals, and we were named the Best Parade of our size in Texas by the Texas Festivals & Events Association. Looking forward to celebrating the United States’ 250th birthday and City of Arlington, TX’s 150th in 2026!

We are sending our thoughts to former Mayor Elzie Odom's family. God bless.

With deep respect and heartfelt sympathy, we share the passing of former Arlington Mayor Elzie Odom earlier this morning.

Mayor Odom was a trailblazer—Arlington’s first African American mayor, serving from 1997 to 2003, following seven years on City Council. His leadership was defined by inclusion, equity, and a deep commitment to our community.

He championed diversity in city leadership, helped bring The Ballpark in Arlington to life, supported youth and senior programs, and laid the groundwork for the Dallas Cowboys’ move to Arlington.

Beyond public service, Mayor Odom was a devoted family man and mentor. His legacy lives on through the Elzie and Ruby Odom Papers at UTA, documenting over 40 years of civic leadership.

We extend our deepest condolences to his daughter, Councilmember Dr. Barbara Odom-Wesley, and the entire Odom family. Memorial details will be shared as they become available.
