Cold wintry day.

Organic Hmong chicken spicy Lao porridge.

Khao Piak Sen.

Turned up the heat with the House Of Elk : Bugle Sauce. (I would say this would rank within the top 5-spiciest chili oils I've ever eaten.) Give it a try!

We butchered our own chickens this fall. The difference between store-bought "organic" and true farm-raised chickens is always staggering when comparing fats and the leanness of the meat. There was no need to skim the top of the soup even if I wanted to. The soup was a very clear broth with good transparency, a light golden liquid that was pretty much free from any visible particles or cloudiness. Many props to the farmer who raised this chicken. Thank you, thank you! 🐔 🍗 🍲

Eye don't think this is how it works in the fish market. A fish monger gets the law laid to them by putting googly eyes on fish to make them "look fresh". The shop gets shut down. 😬😬😬

I'm sitting on the toilet thinking how much our deer hunting times have changed. The saddle craze came out about 3 or 4 years or so ago after being dormant for a couple of decades (with tweaks and technology of course). I wonder which type of hunting craze will be next after this one?

Things that worked for me and I really like:
-OnX GPS
- neck gaiter
- hunting bib for late season
- a hunting saddle

Things I laugh about that I wasted money on (but may work for others🤷):
-Blood tracking light
- scent killer
- "estrus" doe bleat call
- a hunting saddle (yes, I put it on up above as well. It's a love/hate relationship)

Any fads/ techniques that you experienced that worked? Anything you saw that you were sold on that didn't necessarily achieve its goal?

🦌It's quite interesting to see what constitutes as "edible vs inedible" and "usable vs non-usable" depending on which part of the world people go to, heck, especially here in the United States. I get it, people's palates change over time and food menu items always switch up. Outside of my own community, I don't see many people using the small intestines for sausage casings anymore... people don't eat the soft meat of the cheeks of the animal's head as well as the bones which carry some very nutritious vitamins and minerals (tasty when used for broths or soups). Even the skin can be eaten or to be used for leather but is often thrown away.
Using the entire animal as best as one can is important, but we have certainly lost some of our ways; our forefathers are probably shaking their heads at us😅. I'm also to blame too because we just don't get taught or don't want to learn how to use the entire animal as best we can or are just freaking lazy altogether after we get the hunt finished with. I'd be willing to learn on how to use other deer parts if there were programs that taught us, we just don't have too many people that know or are willing to teach anymore.

Keng Yang or Wild Urban Adventures, any thoughts on this? How can we get more education out there?

It's a crazy time in the Midwest with the chicken problem.
When a large processing plant such as Pure Prairie Poultry goes down, the subcontractors all the way down to the mom and pop farms get hit with the devastation just as hard or even harder.
As a result, millions of these chickens are left to starve. Let's hope these chickens can get into the right hands so they can feed families that actually want them.

It's important to do your research and try to be timely because you can be too early or just a tad late. But don't fret! The comment section below has all you need before you head up to the north shore.
When you get into the MN Dept Of Natural Resources site, you can use the "Fall Color Map" to best predict the timing of the fall colors before heading up. As well, and the best way, is to call local places where you plan to visit, to obtain the most reliable knowledge. :)

Places you can check out, but many many more areas not listed:

Lutsen Mountains - Ride the Gondola(for a few) to the top of the mountain
Split Rock Trail
Oberg Mountain Loop
Gooseberry Falls State Park
Wabasha (Southeastern Minnesota)
Ottertail County

Other places to research:
North Shore of Lake Superior
Iron range loop
Edge of the wilderness
Mississippi headwaters

And remember, the colors change generally from the north to the south.

News release of research regarding deer fawn numbers and total fawn deaths in Minnesota.

The biggest causes of death were due to drownings with this year's heavy spring rains during the birthing period, and coyotes as the main predator of the deer fawn.

Stay safe out there for the waterfowl opener, everyone!

To celebrate everyone's opening morning success, here is an AI generated image of me detailing what it thinks I do in the marshes of Minnesota for duck season! Enjoy!😅🤣

2 things that get me the most is:
- the live duck
- me looking like a Russian soldier with a sawed off shotgun tucked into my waders holding a live duck.

***Everything else is true😅
