This month is about clearing space and reclaiming it. You are not just letting go; you are making room for deeper magic.

The second month of House of Hexe begins with the fire of separation and the cool hand of reflection. Together, we will work with herbs that protect and release, spells that sever and purify, and planetary currents that lend clarity and timing to our craft.

First Quarter Moon: The Threshold Between Light and Shadow

Last night the First Quarter Moon rose above the horizon, balancing itself on the knife’s edge of light and darkness. Half illuminated, half hidden, this phase is the tension point of the lunar cycle—the place where choices are made, obstacles appear, and momentum demands action.

The New Moon whispered to us in shadow. Seeds were sown, intentions set, dreams written into the silence. Now the waxing Moon grows louder, pulling us toward the work required to see those intentions through. The First Quarter marks the moment of friction, the testing ground where you either step forward or remain still.

This is the lunar reminder that growth isn’t passive. To manifest what you desire, you must press against resistance. Tend what you planted, clear away what blocks your path, and choose—again and again—to move with the current of your will.

In traditional witchcraft, this phase is a time for spellwork of momentum and alignment. Protection magic holds steady here, as do workings for courage, determination, and breaking through resistance. If you’ve been hesitant, let the First Quarter Moon be the sign that it’s time to act.

First Quarter Moon Herbal Infusion

This simple infusion supports clarity, energy, and determination during this waxing phase.

Ingredients
• 1 part Yarrow (for courage and threshold-crossing)
• 1 part Rosemary (for mental clarity and focus)
• ½ part Mugwort (for vision and intuitive strength)
• Honey or lemon to taste (optional)

Method
1. Bring water to a boil and pour over the herbs (about 1 Tbsp total blend per cup of water).
2. Cover and steep for 10–15 minutes. Strain.
3. Sweeten lightly if desired.

Ritual Use: Drink beneath the waxing Moon, focusing on your chosen intention. As you sip, envision your energy building like the Moon’s light—growing stronger, more determined, and more present with each phase.

Closing the Circle

When your work beneath the First Quarter Moon is complete, close your space with gratitude and authority.
1. Face the quarters (or directions) in reverse order of how you called them.
• Thank each element or spirit for its presence and release it.
• Example: “Spirits of the West, powers of Water, I thank you for your presence. Depart now in peace. The circle turns.”
2. Walk the boundary of your circle counter-clockwise.
• As you go, envision the protective boundary dissolving back into the earth and air.
• Say: “This circle is open, but never broken. What was raised here lingers as blessing and strength. So it is.”
3. Ground yourself.
• Place your palms flat on the earth or floor.
• Breathe deep, releasing excess energy into the ground, and draw in steadiness from below.
4. Extinguish candles (if used).
• Leave one small flame or light if you wish to carry its energy forward.
