Rocky Mouth Falls is a scenic waterfall hike near Salt Lake City, Utah — and an epic spot for a high-flow rappel. When I visited, the water was raging, making the descent much more intense and exciting. I ended up rappelling the main drop three times because it was just that fun. With easy access, a short hike, and a dramatic vertical rappel through flowing water, Rocky Mouth Falls is a perfect location for practicing canyoneering techniques or adding adrenaline to a classic Utah waterfall adventure.

I solo hiked up Heughs Canyon in Utah and rappelled down the main waterfall as part of a quick canyoneering outing. The approach followed a steep trail that crosses over a stream and rocky terrain before reaching the falls, where I rigged a rappel using a tree. Water flow was high and cold, adding an intense challenge to an otherwise straightforward descent. This solo adventure highlights one of Salt Lake City's lesser-known canyoneering spots and shows what it's like to rappel a waterfall alone in late spring conditions.

I kicked off the second day of my road trip with a solo trail run through Ding and Dang Slot Canyons in Southern Utah’s San Rafael Swell, a route known for its blend of trail running and technical canyoneering. The morning brought a mix of fast desert terrain, narrow sandstone slots, stemming over cold pools, and several down climbs using fixed ropes. This demanding adventure set the tone for the day and highlights why Ding and Dang are a must-visit for canyoneers, climbers, and outdoor enthusiasts. If you missed Day 1, check out my rappel into Goblin's Lair, and stay tuned for what’s next as I head deeper into Utah’s canyon country.
