The Month of Action continues this week with DEEP BLUE SEA! Directed by Renny Harlin and starring Saffron Burrows, Tom Jane, Sam Jackson, LL Cool J, and Stellan Skarsgard, Deep Blue Sea tells the tale of Dr. Susan McAlester who is working on a cure for Alzheimer’s. So she starts by juicing up shark brains, obviously. After setting up shop in an isolated ocean lab, because nothing says "safe science" like experimenting on super-intelligent killing machines in the middle of nowhere, the company's corporate watchdog shows up to check if the brain-harvesting science is ethically sound (spoiler: it’s not), and things take a nosedive. A “routine procedure” turns into a full-blown shark uprising, as it turns out, giving sharks giant brains doesn’t make them friendlier; it just makes them better at plotting your demise. Now, a handful of terrified scientists are trapped in an oceanic murder maze, and the sharks are running the show.

This month's Patreon-exclusive Mental Health episode about THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT, available now at patreon.com/worsepeople, is tied to another episode, Deep Blue Sea. Both are directed by Renny Harlin (possibly his two best films) and both feature Sam Jackson! Geena Davis, playing Samantha Caine, is your typical suburban single mom: she bakes cookies, helps with homework, and occasionally has flashbacks of breaking necks and exploding things. Just your everyday PTA member with a mysterious knack for hand-to-hand combat and handling fi****ms. When the déjà vu gets too stabby, she hires Mitch Hennessey, a private detective, and together, they uncover the shocking truth: Samantha isn’t just a mom, she’s a lethal government-trained assassin who took one too many blows to the head and forgot she was basically the female John Wick. Now her old employers want her back, and "Mom Mode" is about to go full-on "Murder Mode."

The time has come! In this month's installment of Schlock & Load, Derrick will finally get Jack and Whitney to watch a Cynthia Rothrock movie, 1993's Undefeatable! She plays Kristi Jones, a martial arts expert, who joins forces with a detective, John Miller, to track down a serial killer who victimized her sister. The acting is bottom of the barrel, with a lot of martial arts students and unpaid locals, but the action is top-notch and the villain is one of the craziest ever committed to film!

The Electric State is Netflix's most expensive film at $320 million, as well as one of the most expensive movies ever, period. It follows Michelle and her robot friend Cosmo as they travel across a dystopian America ravaged by a war between humans and robots, looking for her brother. Joined by a veteran and smuggler named Keats and his wisecracking companion robot, Herman, boredom ensues. Despite having a killer cast including Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Giancarlo Esposito, Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, and Anthony Mackie, this movie sits at a 14% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 2.1 on Letterboxd, so we're here to see what the hell happened.
