💜 5000 FOLLOWERS! A Massive Thank You + One Last Party 💜
Back in 2020, at the height of lockdown life, I stumbled upon a Twitch stream from Henry Dunham, a guy I knew from the breaks forums and head honcho of the great Bombtraxx Records. With Henry’s help and his awesome mod Emily Travers, I picked up my headphones again, streaming music from NZ to friends in the UK.
What started with a small group of DJs—"Reckless", Cam Findlay, Mike Dunlop, Funknslocuts and others—soon became something much bigger. I became inspired by amazing streamers like Chris Craze and his Twitch Mob crew, Jack Nash aka The Hong Kong Ping Pong Sy Smith Luke Tawera Epapara of the Global Funk Fam and other like-minded DJs on a mission to bring breakbeats to life across the globe. One night, I even caught Guy Hatfield aka DJ Hyper playing tunes from the living room of Orlando breaks queen, now friend, Heather Collins.
Then came an idea: to connect these passionate breaks streamers into one global event. The result: Global Beats Festival, originally Global "Breaks" Festival—the world’s first online international breakbeat event. I hit up my breaks connections, bringing The The Freestylers, Krafty Kuts, Keith MacKenzie onto the platform, as well as working with GBF legends such as Mike Hampton, Manuel Rasco Mazo DJ Mondo Perfect Kombo DJ Mark V, Dj OnDaMiKe and so many more.
I started producing again, connecting with DJ Huda Hudia, releasing tracks on Kaleidoscope Music, and becoming part of one of the most successful, long-standing breaks Twitch events: Kaleidoscope Music Sunday Sessions. I also collaborated and released music with Phreak Recordings, Diesel Recordings and Toast & Jam Recordings building lasting friendships and collabs.
There are so many others I’ve got to know over the years—like close (but far-away) friends Rob Williams, and the mighty DJ Brownie (Chris Brown)—one of the few people I make music with across the globe. I reconnected with long-time legend Jason Bull aka Afghan Headspin, now tearing it up with Dirty Kitchen Rave, and I can’t forget Joshua Dharano and the Halcyon Syndicate crew, plus the likes of Brook Barngrover, Jason DominikAudio DiPatri Simply Jeff Michelle Leus Mac Maculate Lotze and Spencer Ace Moase, pushing great music on the North American west coast. And of course, how could I forget DJ Brisk (Paul)—thanks for the banter, beats, and support as part of Team Brisk, who I’ve probably raided 300 times! (Still waiting on those samples for our collab, bro!)
💥 Fast forward 5 years… and 5,000 Twitch followers later, I’m ready to take a Twitch holiday. But not before one final celebration:
