That Salad Lady Grab "The Build Your Bowl Salad Cookbook" and start building your wellness bowl today 🥗 Hi, I'm Nina Cherie Franklin, PhD, also known as That Salad Lady®.

That Salad Lady® is all about real food, real life and daily rituals for wellness—from colorful bowls and mindful movement to family moments and grounding habits. I'm a health scientist, author, mom of two and creator of "The Build Your Bowl Salad Cookbook." With over 25 years of experience in nutrition, exercise and lifestyle medicine, I teach real people how to build real wellness—from the food

we eat to the way we move and live. This brand started with salads, but it's never been just about food. It's about discovering everyday rituals that support well-being through all the layers of life. I've faced my own challenges, including chronic anxiety, OCD, and the ongoing work of balancing motherhood and personal growth—and I bring those experiences into everything I create. Whether it's sharing colorful bowls, practical workouts or mindset tools for mental wellness, my goal is to make wellness feel grounded, flexible and real. Welcome to That Salad Lady. Real food. Real life. Wellness that fits.

Hey Salad Lovers! It’s been a while, and I’ve truly missed this space ✨

I deleted the apps, stepped away, and gave myself permission to live what I teach.

In that time, I’ve been out sharing The Build Your Bowl Salad Cookbook, connecting with people who’ve found new joy in building their bowls, and creating something new—The Build Your Bowl System: Ultimate Guide to Making Salad Dressings 🥗

It’s a simple, practical resource to help you bring more flavor (and balance) to your everyday meals, now available for download.

Off the screen, I’ve been focused on what matters most—my family. Keeping things steady for my little “ausome” sweetheart, Aubrey, cheering Ramsey through his senior year, and finding quiet moments between it all to rest, teach, lift, breathe and just be 💙

I’ve continued coaching amazing clients and started planning a refresh of my YouTube channel—one that’ll bring you even more real-world wellness content, the kind that actually fits your life.

This time away reminded me of something simple but powerful: You can’t teach balance if you’re not living it.

So, as I return, my goal is the same as it’s always been. Not to chase trends, but to build connection, share knowledge, and help you create balance in a way that feels real and sustainable.

I’m That Salad Lady, a health scientist and coach who believes in real food, real life and real wellness—the kind that meets you where you are and grows with you 🌿

Thank you for being here 🙏🏾

Now, tell me, what’s one way you’ve been finding balance lately 💚

Eighteen 🎉

Today, my firstborn, Ramsey James, turns 18.

It’s hard to put into words what it feels like to say that out loud. He’s officially an adult, even if it still feels like yesterday I was chasing him around the kitchen, trying to stop him from double-dipping his fingers into my salad dressings.

Now he’s making his own bowls. His own protein shakes. Setting alarms (most days). Working long shifts and managing his own schedule. Asking real questions. Learning—slowly but surely—how to show up for himself.

This past year hasn’t been easy—for either of us. We’ve had our share of hard conversations, silent stand-offs and plenty of “what is even happening right now?” moments. Raising a teenager is work. Raising this teenager has stretched me in ways I didn’t see coming.

But even on the hardest days, he’s still my Ramsey. Sweet, thoughtful, smart as hell and funny in that quiet, dry way that sneaks up on you. He might be a bit more sheltered than I was at his age, but he’s figuring things out on his timeline. And that’s okay.

I don’t expect perfection. I just want him to keep moving forward, keep showing up and keep choosing growth—messy as that might look some days.

Happy birthday my boy. You are loved beyond measure. I’m proud of you, and I’m proud to be your mama 💙

Today, my little Aubrey turned 6 🎂

Many of you know he’s my rainbow baby—born after six losses between him and my first, Ramsey, who’s about to turn 18.

Aubrey is on the spectrum, and birthdays around here look a little different. If I’m really lucky, I might get a good pose and smile to mark the day. Still, every year, I’m filled with gratitude for the gift of raising him.

He’s here. He’s thriving in his own way. And I love him beyond words.

Being Aubrey’s mama has stretched me in every way and taught me more than any degree ever could. About presence. About patience. About letting go of what doesn’t matter.

If you know, you know. And if you’re in it too—I see you.

Happy birthday, Aubrey. You are everything. Thank you for choosing me 💙

Self-care isn’t a luxury. It’s how you stay whole ✨

I took this photo three years ago at my favorite little cabin—back when I started taking real self-care seriously.

Not the kind you post for likes. The kind that keeps you grounded when life gets loud.

Since then, I’ve learned that self-care looks like:

✔️ Saying “no” without guilt.
✔️ Asking for help, then actually taking it.
✔️ Taking time to breathe—on purpose.
✔️ Lifting weights because strength is survival.
✔️ Taking social media breaks and not explaining why.
✔️ Eating food that makes you feel good—not just full.
✔️ Defining success on your own terms.
✔️ Embracing change instead of fearing it.
✔️ Letting go of the past to make room for what’s next.
✔️ Loving the body you’re in—right now.

September is Self-Care Awareness Month. But this work? It’s daily.

You don’t have to earn your rest. You don’t need permission to choose peace.

Start where you are—and keep going 💪🏾

✨ And how to reconnect with joy, culture, and self-trust through every bite

🎙️ Episode 8: Beyond the Bowl — How Flexibility, Flavor & Feeling Your Way Through Food Can Reset Your Brain drops this week.
