Altars and Sacred Spaces
This is an image of a boveda, an ancester altar, from years ago that I once maintained. Altars, shrines, temples are places that have been blessed, anointed, and made holy (or profane) through evoking spirits there and dedicating it to them, by consecrating it through ritual means. Here we light our candle magic, craft our amulets, and petition the ancestors or other allies to aid you in your magic.
A recommendations I have for tending altars include:
- Keeping them clean, free of moldy offerings, and in a room of their own if possible.
- Be mindful of the powers you populate each altar with, do a bit of divination and ask them if they are open to sharing a space with another spirit or god.
- If you make promises with an ally or an oath, Keep your word and uphold your part of the bargain.
I also recommend beginning with one ally or three at most. It doesn't hurt to entreat beings whose domain or powers reach across various realms.
