I know that by now a lot of you have tuned into my old radio home for the past couple of years and discovered the change. All I can say is it's radio. I've been working professionally in this industry since the 80s and it's the most confusing bunch of weirdness I've ever experienced. I should write a book, but instead I'm taking my love of music and my love of my home state of Kentucky and bringing those two things together to celebrate the beauty that is uniquely the music of Kentucky with the new streaming platform RadioKY.live.
These days it's way easy to stream in your car or on your airpods and you don't have to be bothered by the crazy world that is broadcast radio. Plus, as much as we rely on them to pay the bills, I hate commercials. So we'll be doing our sponsorship announcements very differently too so you don't have to endure long breaks away from the music.
This recent development caught me off guard but the fact that l had already been chewing on this idea just precipitated my decision. The response I've had so far is proving this move is more on the mark than anything I've ever done professionally.
I'm grateful for great ideas. I'm looking forward to making decisions that are good for my listeners, good for Kentucky artists, and good for my business partners and sponsors.
I'm graced to have been presented with the problem that needed a solution. Remember, the obstacle is always the opportunity. The problem IS the path. Life will always guide you if you let it.
God willing we'll be fully up and running by April 1st and accepting local music through the website. In the meantime enjoy what we have curated so far from some of the greats from our great state at RadioKY.live.
Thank you for your support and for hanging out with me on the radio for all these years. Here's to the next chapter!
