Leslie Braly + Johnny Sangster have been singing and writing
songs individually for decades, and they remain passionate
pluralists in Seattle’s music scene – Sangster as an in-demand
producer, engineer, and guitarist (The Tripwires, Mudhoney, Neko
Case) and Braly as the leader of longstanding Americana outfit
Pineola + sought-after collaborator.

Something rare takes place when they write and perform together: a proverbial third
voice joins the chorus, evident to anyone who has heard their 2022
debut, Permanent Wave. This voice speaks for the multiplicity of
selves present in each of us – aching, stubborn, strutting,
stumbling, crestfallen, deliriously in love – often in the space of a
single measure or stanza. Their alchemy finds new expression and
potency in Braly Sangster’s new album, Candy Wrappers.

“PINE is a photographic and music-based project that uses the act of tree carving to conjure up sentiments of connection, alienation, or even the most basic desire to declare, “I was here. See for yourself”. Both tender and violent, it is an intimate gesture and with deliberate purpose.”

This project Envisioned and realized by Eirik Johnson is a sonic set of reflections to accompany his photographs, revisiting his own history as a musician and bringing in a varied group of collaborators who responded to the photographs with their compositions and recordings. Songs were contributed by Whiting Tennis, DEDE, ELIA, NEWAXEYES, SassyBlack, Tenderfoot, + Eirik Johnson.

This lushly-produced book includes two gate folds and houses a custom translucent blue 12-inch vinyl record.
