What started off as a close fight between Pierce College and Golden West College ended in a lopsided loss to start the season for the Brahmas. The Pierce College women’s soccer team kicked off the Fall 2025 season on Aug. 26, facing Golden West with a 3-0 victory for the Rustlers.

The first half started with aggressive defense from both sides, not letting either team score ending off with a score of 0-0.

The Brahmas entered the second half aggressively but made out-of-character decisions according to women’s soccer coach Adolfo Perez. “We adjusted and it’s like we get tired. We made uncharacteristic mistakes in the back that we don’t usually make. The Rustlers took over the second half, scoring three goals in the span of the lst 25 minutes of regulation.

The Brahmas will be on the road to battle against Palomar College on Friday, August 29.

The stands of Shepard Stadium were filled with family and friends of the graduates of Pierce College at the 77th commencement ceremony on June 10.

Associated Student Organization (A*O) President Jasmine Minchez was one of the speakers during the ceremony and shared her pride in being a Brahma.

“Wherever your path leads or wherever it began, we can all proudly say community college played a part in it.” Minchez said. “I am a proud graduate of Los Angeles Pierce College.”

After the speeches, the graduates lined up to be called to receive their diplomas. They each had a chance to show off their decorated caps, which ranged from fun, artistic designs to honoring heritage and family history.

For some, this is the end of the road for their academic careers, but for others, this is a step to another goal.

A car fire was reported shortly after noon on Monday in the Pierce College Admissions Parking Lot.

ENCORE student Tanya Potvin said she was driving toward the Music Building when she noticed the electronics in the car start to go out and decided to pull over.

According to Media Arts Professor Jeff Favre, who was walking on campus, he saw dark gray smoke coming from the parking lot and a fire engine with its lights on.

Emergency personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department quickly responded to the incident and extinguished the fire.

The silver Honda Accord car’s engine bay was charred and is currently still at the Admissions Parking Lot.

This is a developing story.
