Nothing beats the classic Southern Fried Catfish – crispy on the outside, tender on the inside! 🍽️🐟
Ingredients:
4 catfish fillets
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Salt and pepper to taste
Vegetable oil (for frying)
Lemon wedges (for serving)
Directions:
Pour the buttermilk into a shallow dish. Add the catfish fillets and let them soak in the buttermilk for at least 30 minutes. This helps tenderize the fish and adds flavor.
In a separate dish, mix together the cornmeal, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until the oil reaches 350°F (175°C).
Remove the catfish from the buttermilk, allowing the excess to drip off. Dredge each fillet in the cornmeal mixture, pressing lightly to ensure the coating sticks.
Carefully place the coated catfish fillets into the hot oil. Fry for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
Remove the catfish from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Serve immediately with lemon wedges.
