FROM THE KBDT-DB/IM NEWSROOM: American Pentecostal televangelist and gospel artist Jimmy Swaggert has died.
Swaggart was one of the most well-known televangelists in America.
During the 1980s, his crusades were a major part of his ministry—drawing large crowds and receiving significant media attention.
Swaggert founded Jimmy Swaggart Ministries, which owns and operates the SonLife Broadcasting Network (SBN). He also founded the Jimmy Swaggart Bible College. Swaggart was the senior pastor of the Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Owning several radio stations in the 1980's he sold them because he wanted to have a university similar to Oral Robert's.
KWJS-FM in Arlington, Tx (Dallas/Fort Worth) calls stood for "World of Jimmy Swaggert ".
KBDT-DB/IM and Balfour Omnimedia Company owner/President Mick Williams was an intern at KWJS-FM.
Swaggart wrote about 50 Christian books offered through his ministry. He sold over 15 million records worldwide as a gospel artist and he also received one Grammy nomination.
On June 15, 2025, his son, Donnie Swaggart, reported that Swaggart had suffered cardiac arrest at his Louisiana home, and had been hospitalized in the ICU.
Media reports confirmed that Swaggart died at a hospital in Baton Rouge, La on earlier today.
His was 90.
