Ding, ding, ding, in this corner....

An incoming junior at Roosevelt High School, Dillon Long has been involved in combat sports, in one way or another, since he was in the fourth grade. Like his brothers Dillon wrestled and was even a member of the Milliken Middle School team that won state three years ago, but he says he was never quite “into it.”

“There’s just something about combat sports that I love,” said Long. “It’s not just something I love doing, I love watching them also. They’re exciting for me, not only as a competitor but also as a fan. Combat sports are just fun to me.”

Like so many others, Stephanie Podtburg, the owner of Johnstown Barber Shop, and her manager, Courtney Legler, watched television with a mixture of horror and empathy regarding the devastation wrought by the July 4 flash flooding in Central Texas.

The middle of last week, the pair decided they had to do something. By Friday, with the help of the Johnstown and Milliken communities, Podtburg and Legler were making the 15-hour plus drive to Texas towing a 14-foot enclosed trailer filled with relief supplies behind their pick-up truck and carrying more than $4,000 in cash donations.

Read all about it (and them) and how you can continue to help, in this week's issue of The Breeze.
