Olivia Castlen writes,
"During this Jubilee Year, I’ve been grappling with hope. I spent the first few months of the year contemplating, “What does the virtue even mean?” I was never quite satisfied with the dictionary definitions I found.

My pondering continued as I received a positive pregnancy test in the spring, felt the little one’s first flutterings in late summer, and dreamed about the future as my stomach grew larger and larger with each passing week."

Archbishop writes,
"My dear brothers and sisters:
As we celebrate the Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord, we rejoice because we praise God in thanksgiving that true peace has come down to us from heaven.

The mystery of the Incarnation, when the Word became flesh (John 1:14), underscores the profound act of God sending his only begotten Son to bring hope and peace to the world. As we approach the conclusion of this Jubilee Holy Year, the 2,025th anniversary of the Incarnation of our Lord, the birth of Christ reminds us that all is not lost.

Jesus is our source of joy, Father George Otuma told worshippers who gathered for a closing Mass of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Gaudete Sunday, the third Sunday of Advent.

“In this emotional moment, how can we rejoice?” asked Father Otuma, pastor. “How can we find the joys in the imperfections, in the sufferings and in the disorder? Because the Lord is the source of hope. God is our source of hope.”

Colorful Christmas bags filled with sought-after toys — from Barbies to toy dinosaurs to tricycles — blanketed the floor of St. Vincent de Paul’s conference room the morning of Dec. 10 as volunteers prepared for the agency’s 29th annual Santa Shop.

Similar efforts were also undertaken by Catholic Charities’ Presents with a Purpose drive, which distributed gifts to more than 500 children through the agency’s programs, including Sister Visitor Center, Migration and Refugee Service, Community Support Services and the Bakhita Anti-Human Trafficking program.
