John Burpee was honored during the banquet as the 34th recipient of the C.O. Myers Safety Award, the National Board’s highest honor.
Executive Director Joel Amato said of John during the presentation, “It’s difficult to express the impact John has made on NBBI, the state of Maine, and me. … And through his work on the Board of Trustees, John helped shape the National Board’s activities and initiatives in profound and lasting ways.”
The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to safety in the boiler and pressure vessel industry. Burpee served as Maine’s chief boiler inspector from 1999 to 2025 and was an active member of the Board of Trustees, including serving as chair from 2014 to 2017. He currently serves as NBBI’s jurisdictional liaison.
After accepting the award, John reflected on the people who supported him throughout his career, saying, “I can’t thank enough the folks who have helped me through the years.”
Congratulations, John, and thank you for your continued dedication to advancing safety.
