Did you catch our bonus episode this week?

Our Director Lydia B. Smith was recently interviewed on “Resonate | Conversations & Life Lessons from Rancho La Puerta” hosted by Barry Shingle. Resonate is a podcast series that explores heart-centered thoughts on well-being and life from expert presenters whose core message aligns with the motto at Rancho La Puerta: “Siempre Mejor,”—Always Better.

During this episode, Lydia discusses her journey on the Camino de Santiago and how that experience helped inspire her to showcase the impact of transformation and restorative justice in prison.

On December 13, Lydia will be presenting at Rancho La Puerta and they are offering a 30% discount on that week’s stay for our listeners. Visit https://rancholapuerta.com/ to learn more and make sure to mention the podcast when you sign up to redeem the discount.

We are thrilled to announce that Cellblocks to Mountaintops has been selected for the upcoming Inthrive Film Festival. The mini-documentaries “Restorative Justice” and “An Act of Mercy” will be screened at their upcoming festival in Richmond, VA on October 18 & 19, as well as on their multi-city tour.

This selection is particularly meaningful due to Inthrive’s mission: celebrating the voices and talents of incarceration survivors. The film festival celebrates formerly incarcerated community members who are thriving, as well as advocates and allies, working to remove barriers to successful reentry. We are so honored by this selection and we hope you will check out their page to learn more about the incredible films they are highlighting.

You may have seen the buzz around one of this summer’s most anticipated movies, Sing Sing. The film is about a group of incarcerated men staging a theater production inside Sing Sing Correctional Facility. The film stars Coleman Domingo (Emmy-Award Winning and Oscar and Tony Nominated Actor named one of TIME’s “100 Most Influential People of 2024”) and Oscar Nominated Paul Raci, alongside many formerly incarcerated actors, including a standout performance by Clarence Maclin. The film is based on a real theater program at Sing Sing run by the non-profit Rehabilitation Through the Arts AND our very own Phil Stockton (our host!) is working with RTA right now!

There are so many parallels between our series and this film: from engaging with Shakespeare for the first time to parole board members implying that these men may be “acting” at their release hearings. On Wednesday, August 14, our Director Lydia B. Smith will be presenting Cellblocks to Mountaintops at Salem Cinema (Salem, OR)’s early premiere of Sing Sing. There is a good chance this event will sell out so best to get your tickets in advance. Purchase tickets at www.cellblockstomountaintops.com/salemcinema

And if you know of any independent theaters showing Sing Sing this summer that may be interested in collaborating us, feel free to DM us or email [email protected].
