As Kit shows in their recent book “Before We Were Trans,” we have to train ourselves to look for gender creativity and disruption in the past. Trans+ people have always existed, but you have to know where to look.

What you end up finding is that gender disruption is more of a constant throughout world history than any strict and universal gender binary.
