One of the highlights of our year has been participating in Startup Sioux Falls GrowCo program. A perk of the cohort is having access to the GrowCo board. Last week as I was presenting to the board about the progress of Passenger Productions, a board member asked the question...

“How do you define what a founder is?”

The simplicity of the question caught me off guard as it exposed that I was assuming my definition of a founder is the same as everyone else. More importantly, it revealed that I didn’t have a clear definition as it relates to my business and who we serve.

Artist Anna Youngers reflects on her life and art as process. Filmed over the course of a few impromptu conversations I utilized a variety of cameras and formats to create the film. These formats included 16mm film, Arri and Black Magic digital cameras and medium format still film. In an effort to really make her incredible work stand out I opted to primarily use black and white while saving her work for color. Victim of poor audio issues I decided to embrace the imperfections and build the sound design to utilize all the clicks, beeps, and ambient hiss. Music by Joel Pickard.

Passenger had the pleasure of collaborating with the folks at Dakota Adventure Supply to help tell their origin story. Dakota Adventure Supply crafts high quality outdoor gear in South Dakota. More impressive is their mission to foster and promote camaraderie in adventure. Focusing on their mission is what really sets them apart from just selling heirloom quality gear. That said, their mission neither detracts from their quality nor does their pursuit of quality detract from their mission. It’s a solid combination that should propel them into a successful future.
