Hey friend!
I’ve been reflecting a lot lately on this idea: learning never happens in a vacuum.
Sure, we can read all the books, listen to the podcasts, watch the tutorials. But the most powerful teacher? It's the act of doing. Of showing up, again and again, in the thick of things.
We don’t overcome stage fright just by reading about it. (Wouldn’t that be nice? )
No—we learn how to manage performance anxiety by performing. By auditioning. By saying yes to the recital, even with shaky hands. We prepare as best we can, we try different tools until something clicks, and we grow through every experience—every note played in front of an audience, every breath taken despite the nerves.
This idea has been echoing in my heart lately as I navigate growing my businesses.
Sometimes I catch myself thinking: “Wow, learning how to invest and manage expenses is overwhelming.” And in that moment, I’m reminded of a powerful truth.
God placed this on my heart:
David didn’t face Goliath out of nowhere.
Before the battlefield, David was in the field—literally. He spent years as a shepherd, protecting his flock from wolves and bears. He didn’t read about it. He didn’t study a battle plan.
He learned by doing.
That very experience—hard-earned, sometimes mundane, sometimes scary—became the foundation for one of the biggest battles of his life.
So if you’re in a “field” season right now—practicing, budgeting, auditioning, building, trying, failing, starting again—don’t despise it.
This moment is preparing you for your “Goliath.”
Whether you’re aiming for music school, launching your flute studio, or learning how to run a business with integrity—you’re not behind. You’re in training.
Be gentle with yourself in the process. You’re doing amazing, courageous work.
You've got this.
All my best,
Dr. Heidi 🌳🐑🌼
