Global building technology society ASHRAE and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) OzonAction are offering the Assessing RAC Plant Sustainability checklists and guidance sheets. These free, downloadable, easy-to-use tools are designed to help refrigerating and air-conditioning (RAC) plants improve performance, reduce emissions and promote energy-efficient, sustainable operations.

Proper maintenance and operation of RAC plants remain a significant challenge due to increasingly complex systems, evolving technologies, and the introduction of new refrigerants requiring specialized knowledge and handling. The Assessing RAC Plant Sustainability tools provide practical support in addressing these challenges. These new RAC guidance documents support performance, compliance and sustainability for technicians, engineers, suppliers and plant managers.

The Assessing RAC Plant Sustainability checklists and guidance sheets are part of a broader portfolio of ASHRAE–UNEP tools developed to promote responsible, efficient cooling practices and support international efforts related to the Montreal Protocol. Learn more here,

Dirty cooling towers can cause a massive loss of efficiency for your HVAC system. Scale build-up and the accumulation of debris, bacteria and other organics in your cooling tower can adversely affect your chiller’s performance. A dirty basin can also cause severe health issues for anyone within proximity. Studies have shown that microdroplets from cooling towers are known to travel up to 5 miles, which means that any visitor within that proximity could be exposed to dangerous bacteria.

The Goodway Technologies CTV-1501 cooling tower vacuum allows operators to quickly remove mud, silt and debris from cooling tower basins, reducing the environment where bacteria, like Legionella, thrive.
