A 20-YEAR-OLD WHO NEVER STUDIED ENGINEERING JUST RAISED $2.5 MILLION TO REIMAGINE AIRCRAFT. ✈️🇮🇳

Bengaluru-based startup Alteon has raised $2.5 million in pre-seed funding to develop an autonomous aircraft designed to stay airborne for months—and eventually more than a year.

The founder? Samay Sanghvi, just 20.

He started building aircraft shortly after leaving high school in 2023, learning through prototypes, experiments—and plenty of crashes. He formally founded Alteon in 2025 and has since built a 20-person team in Bengaluru.

The idea is inspired by albatrosses, which can travel huge distances by using a technique called dynamic soaring—harvesting energy from differences in wind speed at different heights.

Alteon wants its small aircraft to do something similar over the ocean, potentially allowing it to remain in the sky for incredibly long periods without constantly relying on fuel or large batteries.

Its recent test was already impressive: the aircraft autonomously completed repeated loops less than a metre above the ocean’s surface.

But the biggest challenge remains.

Alteon still has to prove that the aircraft can sustain flight using wind energy alone.

If it succeeds, aircraft that can stay in the sky for months—or even over a year—could transform maritime surveillance, ocean monitoring, weather mapping and more.

STRANGERS CALLED HER A “MONSTER” — BUT SHE WAS JUST TRYING TO PROTECT HER BABY. ❤️

When Brooke Atkins welcomed her son Kingsley, he was born with a large port-wine stain covering much of one side of his face.

At first, it looked like a birthmark. But Kingsley was later diagnosed with Sturge-Weber syndrome and glaucoma, conditions that can affect the brain and eyes and may lead to seizures and vision problems.

Doctors recommended laser treatment for his port-wine stain. The goal wasn't simply cosmetic — laser therapy is a standard treatment for these birthmarks and can help reduce the abnormal blood vessels and potential long-term skin changes.

So Brooke began documenting her baby's treatment journey online.

But instead of compassion, she received cruel comments. Some strangers accused her of hurting her own child and even called her a “monster.” The criticism became so painful that Brooke questioned herself, despite following medical advice for her son.

People online saw a mother changing her baby's appearance.

Brooke saw a mother doing everything she could to give her little boy the healthiest future possible.

🩲🌱 SCIENTISTS BURIED 2,000 PAIRS OF UNDERWEAR — AND THE RESULTS ACTUALLY MATTER.

In 2021, researchers in Switzerland came up with one of the strangest citizen-science experiments ever: bury your underwear and test the soil. 😂

The University of Zurich and Agroscope recruited about 1,000 volunteers across Switzerland. Each buried cotton underwear and tea bags, then dug them up later and sent them to researchers along with soil samples.

Why underwear?

Because the faster cotton decomposes, the more active the organisms breaking it down—giving scientists a simple visual clue about biological activity in the soil.

And the results were fascinating.

🌱 Private gardens showed the fastest decomposition.
🌾 Fields and meadows fell somewhere in between.
🏡 Lawns showed the lowest soil biological activity.

Researchers found that land use was the strongest factor influencing decomposition rates, while soil chemistry and nutrient levels also played important roles.

More than 2,000 pairs of underwear and 12,000 tea bags were buried at roughly 1,000 locations, creating one of Switzerland’s most extensive datasets on soil life. Even more remarkably, around 240 citizen scientists were listed as co-authors of the resulting scientific paper.

A ridiculous-looking experiment turned into serious science.

An 18-year-old woman in Bangkok reportedly ran up a 60,000-baht ($1,800+) bill after ordering more than 200 drinks at a host bar. Reports say she had entered using a fake ID and was stopped when she tried to leave without paying.

Instead of immediately involving police, the bar arranged what it described as a “hair purchase contract” to cover part of the debt.

Then, an electric clipper was used to shave her head completely.

A video of the incident spread online, but the woman later told police she had not consented to being filmed or having the footage posted. She also alleges that she was threatened.

The bar manager tells a different story, claiming the woman and her mother agreed to the arrangement and that the hair was valued at about 3,000 baht. Her mother disputes that they understood she would be left completely bald.

Now, Thai authorities are investigating the circumstances — including allegations of coercion and improper conduct.

When Ryan Kyote heard about a young girl whose school lunch was taken away because of unpaid fees, he couldn’t stop thinking about it.

He asked his mom if kids at his own school had lunch debt too.

They did.

His entire third-grade class owed $74.50.

Ryan had been saving his allowance to buy sports gear. But instead of spending it on himself, he used his savings to pay off the entire debt for his classmates.
