BEACON Senior News is western Colorado’s leading monthly news magazine for seniors and baby boomers. Our goal is to inform and inspire the 50+ community in Mesa, Delta and Montrose counties through our various publications.
Our monthly news magazine is distributed throughout Mesa, Montrose and Delta counties at more than 300 locations and is available to readers for free.
Originally known as the Best Year’s BEACON, Susan Capps started the newspaper in 1986. Its current publisher, Kevin VanGundy, acquired the publication in 2008. Now, BEACON Senior News has grown to reach more than 50,000 readers every month. The publication has consistently been a top award winner at the annual journalism competition of the North American Mature Publishers Association (NAMPA).

A resource directory for seniors and their families
The BEACON Guide offers essential resources relating to aging well on Colorado’s Western Slope. We produce two editions—one for Mesa County and one for Montrose & Delta counties.
The BEACON Guide features listings and resources for aging in place, local clubs and activities, retirement planning, home services, medical services, caregiving, senior housing and end of life options. The BEACON Guide offers seniors, baby boomers and their families a beautifully organized guide to aging well.
BeaconFest
Our FREE yearly boomer and senior fair in Grand Junction and Montrose!
This day-long festival brings resources and services for seniors to life. Local businesses showcase their products and services, and engage with seniors and boomers in a fun and vibrant environment. Local entertainers, free food, educational seminars and door prizes attract thousands of local seniors to this exciting event.
Grand Junction’s BeaconFest takes place each April at Two Rivers Convention Center. Montrose-Delta’s BeaconFest takes place at the Montrose Pavilion every September.
