“Before we had God’s Word, our lives were very unfortunate, without hope.”
Those are the words of Shepa, a member of the Trio people of Suriname. Before the gospel was introduced to his people, they lived in constant fear of evil spirits. Children were taught that if they strayed from the village at night, evil spirits would harm or kill them. Members of the community would suffer painful rituals or even lose their lives in attempts to expel or placate angry spirits. Today, the story is quite different.
“I accepted Christ when I was working at the Paloemeu airstrip when I was young,” Shepa says, “I learned much from the Christian songs and then grew in my understanding of Jesus as we were given God’s Word. That’s how we learned about God’s way. Today I am an elder in the church. Also, I am a worship leader.”

There are an estimated 3,300 people belonging to the indigenous Trio tribe in Suriname and Brazil. Of their majority living in Suriname, only 1% know Jesus, according to Joshua Project. And every day, more of their number push deeper into the Amazon.
We are partnering with the Trio and their neighboring Wayana tribe to set up two radio stations in the jungle. These stations will not only allow members to minister to their people directly, but stretch far across the canopy in the hopes of reaching even more for Christ.
