Fighting has been ongoing in Nyirol County between government forces (SSPDF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-in-Opposition (SPLA-IO).

According to a recent county statement, the SSPDF retook control of Riang Payam — a key area — after it had been occupied by SPLA-IO elements earlier. Local authorities reported that government forces now maintain control there and have urged civilians to stay clear of opposition positions.

BREAKING NEWS, LOU NUER WHITE ARMIES FIGHTERS FEARFULLY WITHDRAW FROM WAAT, YUAI AND SOROUNDING VILLAGES.
------------☆------------

The General public has to recieve this great news about the Shameful withdrawal of
Lou Nuer white armies Fighters who have Fearfully started deserting Waat, Yuai and surrounding villages. And after remaining alone and couldn't be able to face SSPDF forces, the Remnants SPLA-IO forces left Barracks Empty and pretend that they will be waiting SSPDF is hiding places.

The withdrawn of white armies fighters occurred after receiving news of massive forces of SSPDF coming to engage them plus that Pibor fighters are about to attack their home areas, fearing that Murlee fighters may raid their cattle, and abducted children. Following the departure of white armies fighters, the remaining SPLA-IO elements in Waat, Yuai and others villages abandoned their positions and fled, leaving the barracks Shamefully empty

Local sources indicate the areas are now deserted of SPLA-IO presence, exposing a deep crisis within the SPLM-IO military structure. This development raises serious questions about SPLA-IO’s reliance on community militias rather than a disciplined standing force. The withdrawal of Lou Nuer white armies fighters has revealed a harsh reality. without militia backing, SPLA-IO forces in these areas were unable to hold ground or face SSPDF forces, resulting in a rapid collapse of their several positions within Lou Nuer areas.

The situation illustrates a broader failure of SPLM-IO leadership and strategy, a rebellion that depends on borrowed fighters whose primary loyalty remains with their cattle, clans, and families, not political ideology.

The empty barracks of Waat, Yuai and their surroundings are not just abandoned buildings; they are a symbol of:

(01). Militia dependency instead of military organization

(02). Ethnic mobilization instead of national vision

(]3). Reactionary warfare instead of coherent strategy

| Mass Influx of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) into Duk Padiet

A significant influx of 10,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) has been reported in Duk Padiet following displacement from Uror County and Ayod County.

The displacement is largely attributed to insecurity and humanitarian conditions in the areas of origin. Newly arrived IDPs are settling in and around Duk Padiet, placing increased pressure on existing services, food supplies, shelter, water, and healthcare.

Immediate humanitarian assessment and response are required to address urgent needs and prevent further deterioration of living conditions.

| Fear Looms in Nimule as IO Forces Reportedly Poised to Attack

Fear and uncertainty are gripping residents of Nimule town amid reports that SPLM-IO forces are on the verge of launching an attack, raising concerns over civilian safety and regional stability.

Local sources say tension has sharply increased in recent hours, with residents reporting unusual movements around the outskirts of the town. Many families have begun limiting movement, while others are considering fleeing to safer areas as a precaution.

Community leaders have urged calm but expressed deep concern about the potential impact of renewed fighting in a town that serves as a key commercial and border hub linking South Sudan to Uganda. Any outbreak of violence in Nimule could disrupt trade, humanitarian supply routes, and the daily lives of thousands of civilians.

Security forces in the area are said to be on high alert, though no official statement has yet confirmed an imminent attack. Civil society groups and residents are calling on all parties to exercise restraint and respect the protection of civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law.

As the situation remains fluid, humanitarian actors are closely monitoring developments, warning that escalation could lead to displacement and worsen the already fragile humanitarian situation in the region.

This is a developing story.

| Government Forces Advance to Retake Yuai Town from IO Forces

10th January 2026| Duk Padiet Jonglei State — Government forces have reportedly advanced toward Yuai town in an operation aimed at retaking the area from Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army–In Opposition (SPLM/A-IO) forces.

According to local sources, the advancing forces moved from multiple directions, engaging IO positions on the outskirts of the town. The operation is part of a broader government effort to reassert control over strategic locations in Jonglei State that have been under IO influence.

Residents in nearby areas reported heavy movement of troops and military vehicles, prompting civilians to flee toward safer locations. The humanitarian situation remains unclear, with concerns over displacement, access to food, and medical services.

Neither side has released an official statement detailing casualties or the full extent of the fighting. However, community leaders have called for the protection of civilians and humanitarian corridors amid the ongoing clashes.

Observers warn that continued fighting in Yuai
could further destabilize the region, which has already suffered from prolonged conflict and insecurity. Calls are growing for restraint and renewed dialogue to prevent further loss of life.
