Our boys have worked all summer for this moment, and now they’re headed to the World Series!
We’re inviting the entire community to come out tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. to give our 14U Hoke County All-Star Baseball Team the ultimate send-off!

Let’s line the sidewalks, wave signs, and show these players that they have a whole county rooting for them. See you at The James A. Leach Aquatic & Recreation Center 5215 Fayetteville Rd Raeford Nc 28376.

Congratulations to Charlotte and Dalton Samuelson, the winners of this week’s News-Journal Yard of the Week contest!

Their yard on Wright Street has some of the biggest hydrangea bushes we have ever seen! Thank you to the Samuelsons for helping to keep Hoke County beautiful.

To nominate a yard, you can send us an address or your own photos by emailing [email protected].

At last night’s Hoke County Board of Commissioners meeting, we proudly recognized Deputy Medic Lee Black for his heroic actions in the line of duty. On the morning of July 14, 2025, the Tylertown Fire Department was dispatched to a fire on Doc Brown Road. Upon arrival, Deputy Medic Lee Black had already arrived and courageously removed an occupant from a burning structure despite danger to his own life. One could only hope to encounter someone who exemplifies bravery, selfless actions and quick life-saving measures when faced with a life or death situation. Deputy Medic Black was presented with a Resolution of Bravery, which will be officially entered into the Hoke County permanent records.

A life was saved — and for that, the Hoke County Board of Commissioners gratefully say: thank you!
