Recording reveals ordinance violation in Hoke County Planning Office - Commissioner denies telling interim county planner to sign unapproved permit

A Hoke County commissioner allegedly told the interim county planner to remove a special use permit from the board’s meeting agenda, and allegedly told her to approve the permit although the board never voted on it, according to a recording of a phone conversation between two public officials.

The commissioner denied the allegations when asked about the situation.

NOTICE OF RAEFORD CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING
A special meeting of the Raeford City Council has been called by Mayor John K. McNeill, III for Tuesday, June 9th, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. in the James B. McLeod Council Chambers of Raeford City Hall. This meeting will be for the purpose of reviewing the budget with City Manager Dennis Baxley.
The public is invited.
