🎉 Happy Birthday, Helen Keller! 🎂

Born June 27, 1880, in the small town of Tuscumbia, Alabama, Helen Keller’s legacy continues to inspire the world. Her story began at Ivy Green, where a determined teacher spelled “water” into her hand and changed everything. Today we honor her life as an author, political activist, world traveler, and the first deafblind person to earn a college degree.

Here are a few fun facts you might not know about Helen:
🔸 She was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 1953
🔸 She was great friends with Mark Twain and Franklin D. Roosevelt
🔸 She performed on the vaudeville circuit for five years
🔸 She was a founding member of the ACLU
🔸 She loved dogs… and hot dogs 🌭
🔸 She visited 39 countries and wrote to eight U.S. Presidents
🔸 She won an Oscar for the documentary Helen Keller in Her Story

🎈Celebrate her legacy where it all began. The Helen Keller Festival kicks off today, June 27, in downtown Tuscumbia. Live music, local art, family fun, and more await in the hometown of one of the most influential women of the 20th century.
