2025 Readers’ Choice Awards voting underway, two $50 prizes remain --

The Alexander County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and The Taylorsville Times are partnering again this year to promote local businesses through the Eleventh Annual Alexander County Readers’ Choice Awards.

Please take the survey on Page 8 of this week’s Back to School section in The Times or available online at www.alexanderedc.org/survey, and list your favorite Alexander County business for each of the categories. Please make every effort to complete the ballot in its entirety, but please don’t take the survey multiple times. Let’s keep it fair!

Two more random survey respondents will be chosen as $50 winners and announced in The Taylorsville Times on August 20 and 27 (more than half of the categories must be completed to be eligible to win). The first winner was LeAnn Lail, of Taylorsville, on August 13.

The voting ends August 30.

Benefit Cruise In to benefit Brent Warren set August 23 --

The Apple City Street Rodders will hold a Benefit Cruise In for Brent Warren on Saturday, August 23, 2025, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Scotty’s Hometown Grill, 30 Buffet Blvd., Taylorsville.
A 50/50 drawing will be held as well.
Brent was diagnosed with throat cancer in July of 2023. He underwent 35 rounds of radiation from August to October 2023. In October of 2024, his throat started swelling shut, and he was in critical care at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Soon after coming home, he was admitted to Baptist Hospital, where he received a tracheostomy. The plan was to do a laryngectomy the following week; however, he went into Afib and SVT’s due to blood clots in arms, legs, and lungs.
In November, he had to have a feeding tube because swallowing food was difficult. In December the laryngec-tomy was scheduled and was very risky. On December 13, he underwent 15.5 hour surgery to perform the laryngectomy and remove the thyroid.
What was intended as a stay of 10 to 14 days became a 26 day stay due to complications. He had multiple hospitalizations during October, No-vember & December of 2024. He lost 2 jobs during this journey. He also has a mass on his right kidney which will require complete removal. This surgery has not been scheduled at this time.
All Street Rodders, family, friends, coworkers, church friends that would like to come and support Brent, come join this event.
