Love your old home but not the energy bills? Charming older homes may lack modern efficiency — but a few smart (and often invisible) upgrades can make a big difference. 🏡

Think less “new countertops,” more air sealing, insulation, and smart prep around classic features like pocket doors and attic access. Not glamorous, but your wallet (and comfort level) will thank you every month! 💡

🥤 Last stop on our Sip Local tour: A taproom twist on classic soda in Alamosa!

At San Luis Valley Brewing Co., craft soda is more than just a kids’ menu option — it’s a longtime local favorite. Since 2005, owners Scott and Angie Graber have been serving up their signature root beer and black cherry cream soda — “a classic with a twist.” 🍒🖤

Made in-house using San Luis Valley water and force-carbonated for the perfect fizz, these sodas are poured fresh on tap and available by the glass or growler.

Traveling Colorado’s scenic byways in an EV takes a bit of planning — but that’s part of the fun!

Denver-based writer Irene Middleman Thomas learned this firsthand as she cruised southern Colorado in a rented EV, stopping to explore historic sites, local art galleries, and quirky roadside gems while the car recharged.

Pro tip: Bring a book and plan to linger — EV charging time is the perfect excuse to slow down, sip a coffee, or grab a hot fudge sundae in La Junta. 💡

From adobe forts to dinosaur tracks, your EV road trip is anything but ordinary. Read more at coloradocountrylife.coop

Colorado Country Life Brings Home Award for Winning Portrait! 🏆

Colorado Country Life magazine has received an award for a photograph featured in the November 2024 story, "Space to Breathe." Photographer Joshua Scott LLC - Photography beautifully captured a touching moment between Harmony Acres Equestrian Center Program Director and Therapeutic Riding Instructor Morgan Kareus and horse, Cotton. Here is what the judges had to say:

“This photo radiates warmth and connection, capturing a tender moment between the woman and the horse. The composition does a great job highlighting the emotional bond. Her joyful expression and the horse’s calm demeanor tell a beautiful, natural story of trust and care.”

The Cooperative Communicators Association contest invites cooperatives and statewide associations to showcase their knowledge, expertise, and skills among a respected group of cooperative peers. Notable professionals reviewed the entries and selected winners through a blind judging process. Exceptional communicators were recognized during the CCA Institute held in Colorado Springs earlier this month.

Please join us in celebrating this remarkable achievement!

We’re kicking off our Sip Local series — a celebration of Colorado-crafted sodas that are anything but ordinary. Whether you’re craving nostalgic fizz or something new and bold, Colorado is bubbling with flavor.

First up: Rocky Mountain Soda Company, a family-owned company that has been handcrafting small-batch sodas since 2009. With 15 unique flavors like elderberry, prickly pear, huckleberry, and peaches & cream (all made with real cane sugar), their lineup is summer in a bottle. 🍑🌵

✨ Bonus: They’ve also launched sugar-free sparkling waters in lavender lemon and citrus — light, fizzy, and perfect for warm days.
