Issaquah Police Sergeant Arrests 6 Time Felon With Loaded Firearm
Early in the morning of July 15, 2025 Sgt. J. Michels located a Range Rover driving Northeast on Issaquah-Fall City Rd at speeds well over the posted 40 MPH speed limit. As he caught up to the SUV the driver of the Range Rover was displaying clues of possible DUI including straddling the lane lines, driving in on-coming lanes of travel, and speeding. The SUV turned to go South on Highlands and drove for about a hundred yards while straddling the lane markers. Based on all of these clues, Sgt. Michels turned on his emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop at Highlands Dr NE and NE Lilac St for investigation of DUI.
Rather than stopping, the driver turned into the apartments at Highlands Dr NE and NE Lilac St. The suspect continued deep into the apartment complex with Sgt. Michels following him, emergency lights still on. When the Range Rover finally did stop, the driver backed into the push bars of the fully marked IPD patrol car. The driver was ordered to keep his hands in the air and at first complied, but then reached his arm down toward the floorboard of the SUV.
The driver was ordered to exit the SUV and lay on the ground, where he was detained. During the investigation, officers located a black hand gun with an extended magazine protruding out from under the driver's seat of the suspect vehicle. The firearm was later retrieved during a search of the SUV and found to be loaded with 30 live rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber.
The suspect in this case has an extensive history of violent crime to include convictions for Robbery, Residential Burglary, and prior gun charges. He was arrested for a new charge of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 1st Degree and booked into the King County Jail. The firearm, magazine, and ammunition were seized as evidence.
Cases like this continue to demonstrate that no traffic stop is ever "routine" and highlight the great work by the Issaquah Police to keep your community safe.
