Next to my wedding day and kid being born - one of the most important days of my life was finishing the . Certainly I felt a sense of accomplishment but more so a massive sense of gratitude for the South Bay paddling community and for getting me ready. It proved to me that hard work, discipline and a heck of a lot of determination can produce amazing results. Especially when you ask for help and people show up. It seems like a lifetime ago. I know I am a kook compared to the people who have done so many crossings - but if it’s your first- a word of advice I want to echo that once said on camera- when you finish stop and look up and around. Savor the moment. It will be burned into your soul and be a tremendous piece of courage and bravery you can call on when things get rough. At least that’s been my experience.

Good luck to everyone on the start line tomorrow. Safe crossing to the racers and to the race officials who have the daunting task of keeping everyone safe. And most importantly- have fun. Maybe I will see you all on the start line someday soon.

showed up at ready for his first solo mission across the channel. He is not only one of the nicest people you will meet but a paddler who makes it look effortless and by the looks of what I saw, got into some pretty fun bumps along the way. Congrats on your first crossing !

Starting around 12pm I will be set up on the ocean side of the pool building. Please come one and come all. I try to keep the conversations brief so you can get out of the sun and back to hydrating. This is my favorite part of the experience - making new friends, seeing familiar faces and working hard to bring your “why” out in our race videos. If you ever wanted to be in one, this is your chance.
You can reserve slots - just message me.

One of the most unique things about is not just the depth of the channel and how fierce the winds and currents can be - but also how steep some of the swells look out there. Sometimes it looks like paddlers are literally dropping into big waves close to shore. And even more crazy is how paddlers will disappear in the troughs. Race day is Sunday cannot wait to see what the channel provides this year. .

Today is race day for ‘s foil race - stay tuned to their insta today for updates. It’s going to be fast - you cannot believe how fast this craft is until you are on a media boat trying to keep up. Got lucky last year and found doing well, what Kai does. It’s amazing to watch people like him float across the channel. Next weekend is the paddleboards and I will do my best to capture race week.

The Storytellers of SUP and Paddling

One September morning in 2008, I set up a camera at a stand up paddle race. It was a new event called the Battle of the Paddle. I spent the entire day shooting the event, went home and made a video. I uploaded the video and it soon was going viral. Thus, Soul Surf Media (what would later become Fin Film Company) was born. I had been shooting surfing for years as well as shooting weddings and events with some of the area’s top wedding firms. Some weekends it was the Montage, some weekends it was on the road shooting a paddle race. I got lucky and asked to shoot a film on two brave, courageous women paddling all the channels in Hawaii. That film became Destination 3 Degrees and it went on to tour festivals and win awards. From here my path was set in place. I became the video producer for the Molokai 2 Oahu race, worked with Surftech, Bark, Quickblade - the best of the best in the paddling industry. I have also been lucky to work alongside talented directors like Brent Deal to produce some award winning collaborations.

I tell stories. I cannot help it. As a quiet kid, I spent a lot of time in my own head but curious about the world. I bring that curiosity to my work. I believe we all have stories to be told and I am humbled each time someone asks me to tell theirs. Whether you are getting married, have a brand story to tell or an event that needs experienced story based event coverage, I want to work with you.

This is Fin Film Company. We connect you to your audience using cinematic, high quality shooting and emotive editing.
